Akin Scarfo began her career at SESAC Performing Rights in 2006, working in the Creative Services Department (formerly Writer/Publisher Relations) at the Nashville headquarters before relocating to the New York City office. Over the years, she has supported a diverse roster of songwriters across genres, including Jack Harlow, RuPaul, Mya, Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never), Emily King, Kiran “Madame” Gandhi, American Authors, Japanese Breakfast, MGMT, and many others. In recognition of her contributions, she was named to Billboard’s 2024 R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players list. Throughout her tenure, Akin Scarfo has been part of the team driving new and innovative ways to serve SESAC’s affiliates with exceptional service and support. She is also a member and former board member of both the National Music Council and Women in Music—organizations committed to advocating for the rights of songwriters and creators. Additional affiliations include the Recording Academy, Moms in Music, the Association of Independent Music Publishers, the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music, and NYC3. A proud native of San Antonio, Texas, Akin Scarfo earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Clemson University, where she was a four-year letter winner and scholarship athlete on the women’s soccer team. A lifelong lover of music, she grew up singing in choirs and performing in musical theater. Today, her work in the music industry reflects her enduring passion for championing artists and uplifting creative voices.
